Home Phone or Cell Phone for Your Daily Check-In? | MyDailyCheck

Home phone or cell? Using MyDailyCheck with two phones

Lots of people have both a home phone and a cell phone. Here is how to choose which one gets your daily check-in, and how to make it work around the house.

The short version

  • Today, each person has one check-in phone number.
  • Choose the phone you are most likely to have within reach at your check-in time.
  • A cell phone can get texts as well as calls. A home phone gets calls only.
  • A cordless home phone you carry from room to room works well.

Many people we talk to have two phones: a home phone (landline) and a cell phone, with different numbers. It is a fair question which one MyDailyCheck should call.

Right now, pick one number

Each person has one check-in number today. Calling both phones isn't something we offer yet. So the goal is to pick the phone you're most likely to hear and answer at your check-in time.

Choose your home phone if:

  • You are usually home at your check-in time.
  • You have a cordless handset you carry around, or handsets on more than one floor.
  • You don't always keep your cell phone charged or nearby.

Choose your cell phone if:

  • It is usually in your pocket or within reach.
  • You would like the option of a text instead of a call. You can reply whenever you see it.
  • You are sometimes out at your check-in time.

A cell phone gives you a backup

With a cell phone, our retries take turns between calls and texts, and you can text OK to 226-406-8446 to check in late. On a home phone, everything happens by call.

Making it work around the house

  • Keep the handset with you around your check-in time, especially if it lives in another room or on another floor.
  • Turn the ringer up on any phone that is easy to miss.
  • Save our number so you know it is us, and so call blockers let us through. See save our number in your phone.
  • Watch the voicemail. If your voicemail picks up first, that counts as no answer, and we'll try again.

Changing your check-in number

You can change the number from your settings in the app. When you do, we send a fresh request to the new number asking you to agree, just like the first time. Reply YES (or press 1 if we call). Check-ins go to the new number once you agree.
