Adding someone to your Care Circle
You can add people to your Care Circle without asking them first. We text each person to ask if they agree, and calls and texts start after they reply YES. Here is how it works.

The short version
- Your Care Circle is the people we contact, one at a time, if a check-in is missed.
- You don't need to ask them first. We text each person to ask, and they reply YES to agree.
- Nobody gets calls or texts about missed check-ins until they have said yes. Email alerts need a separate email confirmation.
- The request stays open for 7 days. If they miss it, use the Resend button on your Care Circle page.
- Put the person who can get to the door fastest at the top of the list.
What the Care Circle is for
If a daily check-in goes unanswered and our retries don't get through, we contact the people in the Care Circle so someone can check in person. We go one person at a time, in the order you set, rather than alarming everyone at once. The full story is in what happens if they don't answer.
How to add someone
- During setup, add the people you have in mind. You can add up to five at this step. When you sign up for yourself, you need at least one.
- Later, open the person's page in the app and go to the Care Circle. You can add more people there at any time.
- For each person, enter their name and phone number. You can also add an email address if they would like emails too.
- Put people in the order you want. The first person is contacted first.
What they receive
As soon as you add someone, we send them a text from 226-406-8446. It reads like this:
“Hi Pat, Susan added you as an emergency contact for Margaret on MyDailyCheck. We'll text or call you if Margaret misses a check-in. Reply YES to agree, NO to decline.”
Care Circle invitations are sent by text. If your contact only has a home phone, call 519-914-0434 for help. If you added an email address, they also get a separate email asking them to confirm they would like emails. Calls and texts start after they reply YES. Email alerts need that separate email confirmation.
Give them a heads-up
You don't have to ask permission first. But a quick word helps: "You'll get a text from MyDailyCheck. Please reply YES." The request stays open for 7 days, but it goes faster when they're expecting it.
If they miss the text
No harm done. Open your Care Circle page. Anyone who hasn't agreed yet shows as waiting, with a Resend button. Tap it and we send the request again. You can also call our support line at 519-914-0434 and we will help.
Check that everyone has said yes
If a check-in is missed, we skip calls and texts to anyone who hasn't agreed. We still wait their turn before moving on, so an unconfirmed person at the top of the list slows everything down. A minute on your Care Circle page after setup makes sure every person, including you, shows as confirmed.
If they say no
That's okay. They won't get any alerts. You can remove them and add someone else whenever you like.
Who to add, and in what order
The best first contact is usually someone close by, ideally with a spare key: a neighbour, a friend down the street, or family in the same town. Family further away are still valuable, just a little further down. Our guide on choosing your emergency contacts goes into more detail.
Common questions
Do I need to ask before adding someone to my Care Circle?
No. We text them to ask if they agree. Calls and texts start after they reply YES, and email alerts need a separate email confirmation. A quick heads-up is still kind, so they know the text is coming.
How many people can I add?
Up to five during setup, and more later from your Care Circle page. Two to four people works well for most.
What do they get on a normal day?
Nothing. If the check-in is answered, your Care Circle doesn't hear from us. See what your Care Circle sees.
Can I change the order later?
Yes. Reorder your Care Circle at any time from the Care Circle page.
